>The Julington Creek Plantation Tri Club held its inaugural group run and meeting on Saturday morning. It was an unqualified success.
We had planned a 40 minute group run (20 out & 20 back, “no man left behind”) followed by an organizational meeting complete with brunch. First Endurance, Kestrel and Tri-Swim were good enough to provide some goodies and samples to give out as well. Our expectations were completely blown away when more than 40 people showed up on a brisk morning!
The run went great, the door prizes were a huge hit, and the club got started off smoothly. Interestingly, the vast majority (probably 90%) of the folks at the meeting were “newbies” – and had either just started triathlon or had never done one before. Additionally, there were some super experienced triathletes – from multiple Ironman athletes, to two athletes who had qualified for and raced Kona at least once.
Enthusiasm was high. We’ll be working on a slate of activities for the club, including group training, technical seminars, and social events. Stealing a phrase from NASA, Jacksonville’s newest triathlon club is “Go For Launch!”
